Me And Afghan Bee Bee - "Girl Talk"

I convinced Omar to bring Afghan Bee Bee back to see me the other day. I had a feeling if we had a “girlie” talk, without Mr. Secretive Omar around, I’d find out what I wanted to know. Surprisingly, he didn’t seem to mind.

He dropped her off, made me promise I wouldn’t take her visiting anyone, and off he went, back to K9 Town for a while. He knew I would keep my word. I always do when it comes to his pack.

Bee Bee and I settled down after I made us some snacks then she started by telling me how much she loved K9 Town, USA.  She was ready to talk. She said her and the other female Elders all got along like family and had lots of fun. “We all take care of each other at K9 Town,” she said. I could see a sparkle in her eyes as she communicated.

She smiled when I asked about Omar and rather than trying to tell you what she said, I’m going to give you an excerpt from “Led By An Eagle,” my latest novelette, which explains their relationship. This happened while they were up in the mountains on the way to see his canine kin.
Omar was with Afghan Bee Bee
They both were taking a break
Him from being the leader
Her from using the rake.
The rake was a process that she used
On the female Elder’s hair
The ones who’d never been before
Under her fancy care.
She loved her place within the pack
She couldn’t ask for more
The females all felt special
When they walked through her door.
And when they left they’d strut around
for all the pack to see
Just one more thing
To make Omar’s pack
The best that it could be.
It was time to go
Back down the hill
To his waiting playful pack
Bee Bee was feeling good right now
She too had to get back.
She treasured her time with Omar Blue
She thought he liked it too
But no one could read their leader
Just something they couldn’t do.
Maybe at the journey’s end
When they all met his kin
They’d get a better understanding
Of their leader then.

I decided not to ask more questions. Not from Bee Bee, nor from Omar Blue. I’ll find out when the time comes. I always do. They're a happy bunch and that’s what matters.
In almost no time at all, Omar was back. I should have known he wouldn’t be gone long. But he brought me a surprise. Freedom the German Shepherd was with him. I told you all about the time I followed Omar and Freedom and was sorry that I did. They rescued puppies that night. That true story is around here someplace.  I shutter just thinking about it.

We went outside and I talked to them and petted them for awhile. They all gave me licks and kisses and the three of them headed back to K9 Town.

I watched as long as I could, then it seemed like they were just gone. I could no longer see them. I stood watching as I had done so many times before. Wondering, how could this be, but enjoying every minute of it.

Omar Blue Receives Coveted Doggie Do Award

I was leaving work early. I guess you can see I was very happy. Omar and his Pack were receiving an award, for the big Waterfront doggie rescue from that dirty animal abuser Fenimus Rong.

Remember the big headline news article by Sagamaore Duley I shared with you. All of those dogs are still at K9 Town, living happily ever after. I still have the article, http://omarblue.blogspot.com/2013/05/omar-blue-and-pack-make-news.html.

Omar was so excited. I thought I had talked him into dressing up for the event, but he was only compromising before letting me know that lift-off for him "and his friends" was from our house, again.

I really didn't mind. Look how handsome he is.

I noticed Omar kept looking out the window. That usually means something I'm not expecting, so I started looking too. Then I saw her coming.

It was Bee Bee the Afghan Hound, from K9 Town. This was the first time I was able to get a good look at her. She was beautiful!

Omar said she wanted to go with them to get the awards and she also wanted to meet me. She was very shy so I went up the hill to her and we walked down together to the others that had arrived by then.

I was very curious at the way Omar and Bee Bee kept glancing at each other but I didn't say anything because they would be leaving soon and I wanted all the details.

As we got closer to the house there were dogs all over and ready to go. They all seemed excited.

Usually there would be some of my neighbors dogs included, but not this time. These were all members of Omar's pack, wondering what this "awards thing" was.

I got my doggie brushes out and me and Bee Bee made sure they were all looking good, then off they went. Leaving me behind, to my dismay.

When Omar got home he didn't come right in. He says he was waiting for me to come to the window but I think he was showing off.  Would you look at this!

Omar said the Mayor of Waterfront Town gave them all one of these neck things and had lots of food for them to eat. They had fun but didn't want to stay long. He brought me the Certificate they were given. He said his pack wanted me to have it.

I'm proud to hang it on my wall.

I don't think Omar Blue or the pack like this type of fuss. As a matter of fact, this one reminder of what they stand for is enough for me too.

Whadda Day! Whadda Day!

Are they back yet? Are they back yet? Are the.........

Omar understands that he's still a little too energy packed to go on my readings but he doesn't mind, as long as we take the K9 Town Peepers along.

He says when they tell the pack about what happened it's just like being there listening to the story. They love hearing about themselves in my books.

Today I read from, "Led By An Eagle" at the beautiful Elmcroft Senior Living Community. Daughter Joy and I had a wonderful time.

Quality living for our seniors. I loved it.

A mid size audience today. Not one of our largest but I did have to use the microphone to make sure those in the back could here us.

I tell you, our seniors are very, very appreciative but don't think they won't let you know if they're unhappy with you.

Joy and I know the signs. You can't read their expressions so you listen for little sounds. An "oh my gosh" here, an "oh no" or "good for him" there. Signs of enjoyment. We can almost hear a pin drop. Enjoyment!

There was something very special about today. It was so "cozy." As I sat and read on this beautiful summer day, I thought the only things missing were the snowy night and the fireplace. I think the smell of the cookies being baked for us all, had something to do with that, but I liked the feeling anyway.

Referring to their personal posters featuring the characters

After the reading we had our raffle/books giveaway. I hope it's the excitement of winning a book and not just the raffle itself, because it's a feature we have lots of fun with.
I guess you can tell, it was a lovely day.
When I got home Omar was waiting. After hearing that the Peepers wouldn't start without him but they went straight to K9 Town, he was off like a shot.
Be back later, Ma!

Next Month, we will be at the Veteran's Hospital here in Richmond. We plan on making this a special treat for our vets. One thing we know, they deserve it.

Many thanks to Elmcroft Senior Living Community for having us today.

Omar Blue - What Is This World I've Made For You?

I couldn't, even with my wild imagination, know what I was conjuring when I started writing about my Omar Blue and K9 Town, USA. A new world started to evolve around him and the evolution is still taking place.

When I am able to get to K9 Town (when my Mojo works,) the things I see you wouldn't believe, without the pictures I bring back to you. I know that.

I've been thinking back to when Omar took his pack to visit his canine family at Iron Dog Land.

Had I known then that a spectacular force would be leading them on their journey, I would not have worried for a minute. Even with those evil mountain lions on their trail.

How could I know that Omar Blue had Eagle Cloud leading the way.

I only knew they were traveling through dangerous mountains.

It is said that before this, Eagle Cloud hadn't appeared in 100 years. One thing for sure, even the meanest animals stayed out of Eagle Cloud's path.

I've saved this picture for you.

"Is this my imagination?"

One thing for sure, this occurrence cemented my thoughts that my Omar Blue is not only extraordinary to me, but also to powers we have yet to see.

Stayed tuned.....

Omar Blue and Puppy Toby's Adventure

I met Omar Blue as he was coming in from K9 Town. He asked excitedly, "Is he here yet, Ma."
"Yes Omar, we're just getting home. Haven't even been inside yet."

He looked over and saw the cutest little 8 month old puppy. His name is Toby Williams.

When his people parent Janet needed a sitter for the weekend I said, "Sure," before I saw the light go off in Omar's head. Too late! His plans were set in stone. Toby was going to meet the K9 Town puppies.

I didn't really mind because K9 Town is such a wonderful place and I knew Toby would have a fantastic time. Another good thing, I knew I'd get to see schoolmarm Poodle Sophie Jean. Any time there is a puppy involved, she's there.

Omar was about to mention her when I saw her coming, looking like she'd just left Afghan Bee Bee's beauty space. She was just beautiful.

We all went inside. Toby wanted me to tell him a story about his new friends, the K9 Town puppies. I saw Omar and Sophie look at each other, knowing there was nothing I liked better. I started after pulling out some snacks for us. I remembered one Omar had told me a while back.

Readers may remember potbelly pigs Sookie and Mookie from an earlier true tale. They've had a piglet whose name is Dukie and just like the puppies, he has a mind of his own.

Toby was already mesmerized.....

They were resting under the Big Oak Tree
After running wild most of the day

Trying to understand what “rescue” meant

Before going back to play.

They knew their new friends had been “rescued”
From a place that treated them mean

When the Elders came back they were saying

“We put on one heck of a scene!"

As they sat they started to wonder

Why didn’t they teach us this too

They couldn’t think of a reason

So decided they’d rescue something too.

Almost like magic, what would appear

Baby Dukie the potbelly pig

Mad at his parents Sookie and Mookie

For not letting him eat that fig.

Don’t worry said puppy leaders Le, Li and Lu
We know what we have to do
Sookie and Mookie shouldn’t be mean
We’re gonna rescue you.

You can live with us
We never fuss
We eat and play all day
If Sookie and Mookie come for you
We’ll just chase them away.

Dukie thought for a moment
All this sounded good
Cause Mookie and Sookie
Didn’t treat him like they should.

He’d stay with the puppies
At least for a while
Until they missed him
That would change their style.

But at the end of the day tired and beat
Reality finally struck
They had to hide their new family member
But knew they would have no such luck.

Then little black Speedy
The first to speak up said
"Dukie can sleep with us
Ma and pa will be out late
There will be no one there to fuss."

Meanwhile as the Elders looked on
At the puppies big rescue
Sookie and Mookie the potbelly pigs
Were there watching the little ones too.

It was getting late
Time for Dukie to leave
Though they were so cute while asleep.
They picked Dukie up
Ever so gently
He cuddled not making a peep.

Goodbye Omar Blue and our K-9 Town friends
Thanks for keeping our Dukie with you
It’s all been so funny
To bad they must learn
There’s a lot more to a rescue.
-----------
That was the end of the story. The three barely let me finish before they were at the door leaving. They did say good bye, then were off with Toby as happy as could be. Omar later told me how much Toby loved K9 Town and how much fun he had with the puppies. Toby is now considered a member of the K9 Town family and I'm sure will be going back as soon as Omar Blue finds a way to make it happen.

What Makes Omar Blue and His Pack Special?

Ma loves being asked that question. Take a look below at her answer.  Those were hard times for me and my pack but we knew what we had to do and we did it......
 ------------------

From a fierce, wild and wary pack of dogs, Omar Blue has transformed his pack into a sophisticated group of animals with one pursuit; build K9 Town, USA into a place where love, friendship and respect for each other rule and all canines are welcomed.

Under Omar Blue’s guidance, his pack, of many breeds, has developed an admiration for their leader who has proven to be wise, mysterious and brave beyond imagination.
There is a mystique surrounding Omar Blue and other characters have special gifts that they share for the benefit of the pack and their leader.

The K9 Town puppies are the most highly valued result of the new way of life. Given time to be naughty, but much of their time is spent being taught the rules of the wilderness by stern but loving Rottweiler Brady the K9 Town professor and his mate schoolmarm Poodle Sophie Jean.
This Pack fears nothing and until danger is evident will go on with their daily routine of mostly fun and frolicking. It doesn’t take long for their enemies to realize that interfering with this pack is not a wise thing to do.

Omar Blue and K9 Town, USA and Led By An Eagle are told in smooth rhymes, that carry you right into the fantasy but to continue the adventure, The Takeover is told in detailed non-poetic language that keeps its readers on the edge of their seats.

------------------------

Ma's right about everything she said. Here we are, under the big Oak Tree where we hold all of our meetings. We make our laws and vow not to break them.  We don't break our rules for anything.
Look around here. Ma has plenty "true tales" about me and my pack. She thinks I don't know it but she even visits K9 Town sometimes.

Omar Blue and the K9 Town Ballgames

I knew something was up when Omar Blue didn’t get excited to go with me for a long walk, then a ride.

He finally had to tell me what was up (in that way we have of communicating.) At first I didn’t believe it, but after thinking about it for a few seconds something came to mind.

I have something to tell you Ma

Omar has his own Facebook page and he’s been running around Facebook recruiting his doggie friends to play ball against his K9 Town team. He says they play at K9 Town, USA and after the games have fun together. Each team brings their own ball. He said they were having two games that day and his friends were waiting to go. I said, “Waiting where, Omar?”
That’s when he asked me to come over to the window. I said to myself, “Oh no, not again!”
Two team leaders, with team balls were in the yard waiting for him. I couldn’t believe my eyes. There was no mistaking what they were there for.

Wait until they see our moves. Come on Omar!

The teams had gone ahead with Lab-Dal Major Diggs and Rottie Brady, Omar said. What could I say, considering we all know who started all of this, “Go ahead Omar, have a good time.”

My mind raced as I formulated my plan. I was going to see the games!

We're gonna kick some big dog butt today, ha, ha

It didn’t quite work out as I planned. Again, my mojo wasn’t working right.  By the time I got there and found my hiding spot it was late and the games were almost over.

I did manage to see Omar make a play. He was spectacular. Those dogs were having so much fun. No scores, no winners or losers.

Females and puppies from all three teams were on the sidelines, howling and barking and having a ball. How Omar managed this I’ll never know, nor will I ask.

I decided this was no place for me. Maybe that’s why I had such a hard time getting there this time.

Coming your way!!

It’s really amazing having a dog that leads two lives. I don’t think I’ll ever learn that I only belong in one of them. Then again, I don’t think that’s how Omar Blue wants it either.

I knew you all would have a hard time believing this one which is why I took these pictures to support my true tale. Like I always say, "Pictures don't lie.

Or do they."

Omar Blue and Holly's Side Of The Story

The other day Omar came to me and in that way we have of communicating, asked if I’d like to meet a new friend of  his. Her name is Holly, a beagle, and you can see how cute she is for yourself.

She was about to take her first trip to K9 Town but Omar wanted me to meet her first and  hear how she got to be here. He didn’t have to say another word.

We never get to hear the dog’s side of the story but as she started telling it her smiling expression changed and so did Omar’s.
Here’s how she told it....
"I had been badly abused and left on a road, skin and bones, to take care of myself. I was alone and very afraid. I’d stay in the same area, too afraid to venture out.

One day a lady named Katy noticed me. She got out of her car and tried to give me food. I was too afraid that she would hurt me, after what I’d been through, to get close enough to get it. I waited until she drove off then took the food.

This happened many times. I watched her closely. I knew she was a nice lady. I wanted to be her friend. I needed a friend. I decided I would stop her the next time she drove by.

Plan in place, I waited in a ditch under some hollys beside the rural road and jumped out when I saw her. She didn’t see me.

BOOM! Oh my gosh, what had I done! I screamed and she screamed. I ran but couldn’t run too far.

I thought this was the end for me. I was there a long time. Then I heard her calling out. “Oreo doggggg.” Was she calling me? I later found out she had given me oreo cookies when she had nothing else. Maybe that’s when I started liking her, I don’t know exactly.

I sat up to make sure she could see me. She was still weeping. The hurting was worth it. I did everything I could to keep her feeling sorry for me. Didn’t want her to loose interest. She was going to be mine, I could feel it.
We went to a doggie doctor who was going to put me with Animal Control but that never happened. My Katy wouldn’t allow it. We found out I had a broken pelvis. I’m okay now.

My new family named me Holly because I jumped from behind that  holly bush the day everything in my life changed for the better.  Look at me now. This is my family. I love them so much and they love me too. Can’t you tell.

Come on Omar! I’m ready to go to K9 Town to meet all of my new friends."

Omar looked at me as if to say, “Wasn’t that worth it, Ma?” Yes it was. He later told me that Holly had the time of her life with his pack. She’s now a member of their ever-growing family too. If you look closely, you can see her up on the hill romping along with the others.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Many, many thanks to dear friend and animal lover Katy Lloyd for the wonderful family pictures and for letting me pick her award winning, true story apart.

Following is an excerpt from Katy's story:

“The way that I met Holly is so unusual that I know she and I were meant to be together. I fell in love with her the first time I saw her looking so pitiful and skinny. Though she was scared of me, she knew I was there to save her life. I did. And we both are living happily ever after.”

All Went Well At Northside Family Learning Center

I was a guest reader at the Northside Family Learning Center Friday evening. Their Read Center presented "Reading in the Round."

I read chapters from book two of my Omar Blue saga,  Led By An Eagle, to adult students and coordinators and loved every minute of  being in this wonderful place.

The listeners were very enthusiastic, asking questions and I hope saying to themselves, "If she can do it, I can too."

Daughter Joy was with me, of course. She made a fine production out of the giveaway raffle of two books, packing each raffle ticket in a pretty gift bag with candy in it. I think I can say our audience had a good time and we had a ball.

All thanks to the event coordinator, Ms. Leslie Harper.  Thank you Leslie.

Omar Blue couldn't come with us. So to make sure he and his K9 Town pack didn't miss anything, he brought in five of the K9 Town Peepers, remember them.

The Peepers take everything in and let it out when they get back with Omar and the pack.  Look at those eyes. They don't miss a thing. We put them to work taking care of some of the candy/raffle ticket bags. Had to think of something to keep them busy.

When we got home Omar had already left for K9 Town. He later told me the whole pack was excited about the event and were waiting impatiently for the Peepers.

Of course they made it into a celebration. That's K9 Town.

It's always kind of sad when they have to go. They're so cute. Peeper Pa Pa (brown one) stayed to keep me company.

It was a long, gratifying day. I had fallen asleep watching television when I heard Omar's footsteps later Friday night. He was making a sound that said he'd enjoyed whatever the Peepers had told them.

He just loves hearing about his adventures. Such a ham.

Profiling.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

I close with a serious thank you to the Northside Family Learning Center for the wonderful reception you gave us and for all you do for the community.
