Omar loves when I read poetry to him. It seems to put him in a trance. I wrote a special poem for him because he says he and his friends at K-9 Town love each other all the time. He wonders why people can't be like them. I wonder too.
I told Omar this poem would help. I think he believed me. It's about taking the first step.
Where is the love, who has the plan,
to help each other understand.
Black, white, red or blue,
still a reflection of me and you.
Try a smile when feeling low.
Be surprised how far it will go.
Hold out a hand let it be a surprise.
No words need be spoken, its all in the eyes.
Where is the love, I ask again.
Why can't we see it must come from within.
to help each other understand.
