Puppy Talk: Ready to Rumble

Omar:  Sophie had us howling a while back, about hearing the puppies threatening to handle the mountain lion Rottweiler Brady had to discipline. This happened just before we left to visit my clan at Iron Dog Land. Those puppies... What a hoot!

Here's what happened. ("Led By An Eagle" excerpt)

K-9 Town was buzzing

they were visiting Omar’s kin

the females were getting ready

the puppies were in their den.

They were practicing their snarling

as they listened to Le, Li and Lu

tell how Professor Brady

broke the giant mountain lion in two.

The Chihuahua puppy triplets

the puppy leaders too

yelped, that lion should have come to us

to hear what our professor could do.

They laughed 'til their little tummies ached

then they laughed some more

bet we could handle, that mountain lion

if he ever comes to our door.

Maybe we’ll get to see ‘um

on the way to leader Omar’s kin

we’ll run away from the shepherds

and beat him up again.

Poodle Sophie Jean scurried in

schoolmarm and Brady’s wife

she had to hold her laugher in

it might just save a life.

What’s this you say, about running away

while the shepherds, are watching you

I tell you now, if you try it

we’ll be all over you.

Ain’t talkin about the professor

I’m leavin the shepherds out too

‘cause me and the other females

are the ones, gonna handle you!

Now quiet down, and take your naps

there’s a real long trip ahead

when you wake up we’ll be leavin’

but remember what I just said.

The puppies grumbled softly

when Sophie was out of view

the female elders didn’t play

when they came after you.

With groggy eyes they yapped their plan

that lion would still be there

they’d take the professor with them

then the females wouldn’t care.

So off they went to dreamland

nothing else they could do

in a little while they’d be bigger

they’d take Pitbull Sammy too.

Warrior Eagle McZen - More than just a friend

Omar:

Can't say much about my good friend McZen, because I'll be tellin' more than Ma wants me to. He's been in my life for as long as I can remember and is always around if he thinks I'm in danger.

Here's an example. Me and my pack were being attacked by some killer flying creatures we'd never seen before. They're called Ottflys. We were handling them, then...

Warrior Eagle McZen arrived. The high-speed enforcer clamped down on his prey, severing bodies with his sharp, powerful beak, making small work of the powerful flying creatures, too high for us to reach.

The Ottflys released high-pitched squeals, as they redirected their attack towards McZen.

My pack looked to the sky, foreseeing the eagle's demise, but unable to prevent it. Only me and Major Diggs envisioned the true outcome.

McZen flew upward. The Ottflys followed, not able to keep up. He changed course, spread his enormous wings, and came down like a tornado. The warrior eagle whirled through those creatures, with feathered extensions as deadly as razor sharp blades.

My pack roared.

I gazed around. The flying things were done for. I howled, "Stop! Let them gather their wounded and live to tell of this day!"

The fighting ceased.

Now that you know what McZen is capable of, find out why he travelled with the pack in "Led By An Eagle." What dangers did he foresee?

Apparitions - What do you seek?

Apparitions flying high,

why do you hover there?

To learn the secrets of the pack,

your silence makes this clear.

Eyes that light the darkened sky,

K-9 Town in sight.

Perhaps you're seeking mischief,

on such a peaceful night.

Puppy Asha – The Runaway

Puppy Asha, ran away

at least, she thought she had.

Then looked around, first time alone

sorry she’d been bad.

I want my Ma and Pa, she wailed

where’s leader Omar Blue.

I’ll never run away again

what am I gonna do.

Hearts softened at the baby’s cry

always in their view.

She had to learn the hard way

the consequences too.

They woofed a sound, Asha turned around

then scurried to their side.

A lesson taught, the first of many

rules she must abide.

The wilderness holds its glory

but dangers still prevail.

Pack puppies must learn early

no room for them to fail.

A tale for Babee: Omar and A Dog Called Horse

Ma: Babee Blue loves hearing about his big brother and his friends at K-9 Town. I haven't thought about this in a while, but I remember like it was yesterday.

Omar was pouting because I wouldn't let him out until he put his bones away. Caught him sneaking out the back door, dressed in his cap and bling, heading down the block to see some of his buddies.

Oh no you don't! Bones away first, I screeched.

Turning to me with that "caught again" look, he scampered towards his room.

I was chuckling, when it came. A sound that always sent mixed feelings... A low bark.

Omar dashed from his room. "I'll be right back," he woofed, as he flew by me.

I ran to the window.

It was Freedom Dog, and he was pacing. Freedom never came unless there was a problem.

Omar came back in, moving fast. I gotta go, Ma, he yelped. They got A Dog Called Horse.

"What happened," I remember wailing.

A Dog Called Horse is one of the nicest, huge, dogs in the pack. We call him "Horse" for short.

Omar told me Horse had found a place where puppies were being mistreated. But while Freedom was rounding up some of the pack, he ran off alone.

Horse got caught rescuing the puppies and was taken away.

I watched as my mild-mannered companion, transformed into a strong-willed leader, and dangerous snarling adversary, commanded Freedom, "Take some of the pack. Get the puppies!"

I'll never forget the look on his face as he rushed away. I barely heard him woof, "I'll be back as soon as we get Horse, Ma."

Oh my gosh! I had to go. Maybe I could help. I ran in his direction, summoning everything within me into that threatening adventure... It worked.

Suddenly, I was in an unfamiliar place, on a street I'd never seen before, not knowing how much time had elapsed.

There were people standing around, on a strange avenue, all looking in one direction. Then, from around a corner they came, running fast, with A Dog Called Horse in the lead.

They got him -- just like Omar said they would -- but they were being chased!

I didn't like the fact that Omar was in the very back, knowing what a fast runner he is. He later told me, "That's where a good leader is supposed to be."

Anyway, even though the rider after them was fast, Omar and the pack outdistanced him. I'd never seen anything like it. Their feet were barely touching the ground as they ran by.

There was something strange about that place. I felt like I'd gone back in time.

After Omar and the others had passed, I waited until I saw the chaser pass back without them and summoned my way back home. It was like regaining consciousness.

Omar came home a little later. His friends dropped him off with his assurance that he would be following shortly.

When he came in, I asked about Horse and the puppies.

Omar grunted. "Horse is fine. He promised never to do anything like that again. His heart is in the right place, but he's a little hard-headed sometimes, that's all."

He told me the puppies were safe and after some loving from the females, they would be joining the K-9 Town puppies. Freedom and the others would leave no stone unturned until they found those puppies. There was never any doubt.

As Omar left to catch up to his pack, glancing over his shoulder, he ruffed, "I saw you Ma."

I smiled, as he trotted away from me, then watched as he caught up with the others, on that mysterious path that leads to K-9 Town. I heard them yapping joyously... but then they were gone.

K-9 Town - The Wild Dogs At It Again

Me and Professor Brady had a talk with the wild dogs. As usual, they were seeking attention, but this time they needed a good scolding.

They were hangin' around the puppies, teaching them bad habits.

After cooling off, Brady corralled them away from the puppies, and called me over.

They put on their most innocent faces, but we didn't fall for it. We expressed our displeasure. I gotta admit, the two of us can be pretty intimidating. We didn't over-do-it though.

Bottom line... They promised to start setting better examples, and they wouldn't let the puppies goad them into teaching 'em bad stuff anymore.

We believed them, but Brady feigned a snarl, for their benefit, as they trotted away, peering back. "That's takes care of that," he uttered, pleasantly amused at the outcome. "But they'll be up to something else, in no time."

"Sure enough," I agreed, returning his grin. "Can't tame wild dogs... Wouldn't want to."

Head nodding, Brady's focused unblinking eyes met mine. "You're right, Omar. We don't want them changing... That ain't our way.

We moseyed along planning our strategy to confront the puppies who were undoubtedly plotting their defense. The hardest part when disciplining the tiny mischief makers, is keeping a straight snout while they babble.

Off we went... Wouldn't have it any other way.

K-9 Town.

Things happen

A puppy’s gone missing, where could it be

not a canine had seen it, no clue.

A meeting was held, a decision was made

they had to go tell Omar Blue.

A thoughtful leader, and very smart

he’d know where the puppy could be.

But no matter where, he ventured to look

the puppy, he still did not see.

Then a thought came to Omar, the one missing piece

he hadn’t talked with its kin.

He went to the mommy, who suddenly recalled

her litter was nine, and not ten!
