The K-9 Town Peepers Visit FETCH a Cure

I've told you about the newest members of K-9 Town, USA.  Well, Omar and the K-9 Town Peepers, Peepa, Peepbee and Peepcie came in to me.

They had just come from observing an organization called FETCH a Cure and were on their way to K-9 Town, USA to share what they’d learned. The pack was waiting excitedly. I’ve been a member of FETCH a Cure for a while now and admit I’d mentioned it to them once or twice.

We’re a group of animal lovers determined to make the world a better place for our furry friends. Mistreatment and sickness are high priorities and our focus is geared towards building awareness, educating pet-parents about Cancer prevention and support treatment through our Companions in Crisis program.

FETCH a Cure can attest to giving thousands of hours over the years to coordinate and participate in fundraising and other events geared towards keeping our companions safe, healthy and happy.

Daughter Joy, dad and I have had two of our beloved pets struck down by this horrible debilitating disease some refer to as “The Big C.” Watching what they went through was as heartbreaking as watching a family member or friend, especially since we considered them to be both.

Omar says I’m getting mushy now and I don’t want to make him and the Peepers sad. Can’t have them taking sadness back to K-9 Town, USA so I’m going to give you all the link for FETCH a Cure so you can see for yourselves the wonderful job being done.

I finished just in time. You all know Penny the K-9 Town messenger. They sent her to get Omar and the Peepers. Off they all went. Penny never stays long. She takes her job very seriously. I must ask Omar Blue if she's found out yet that her bodyguard Ridgebacks Koffee and Tee are never far behind her.

Omar!!! We're ready.

Omar Blue and the K-9 Town Peepers

It seemed extra dark that rainy evening
I was sitting with Omar Blue
Cozy in front of the fireplace
Watching TV too.

Then Omar started to tell me
In that way I understand
About three new members of his pack
That arrived from a far off land.

“We’ve named them the K-9 Town Peepers
They’re right outside the door
I knew you’d want to meet them
And I admit there’s a little more.”

I didn’t let him finish
Couldn’t wait to see
I love when members of Omar’s pack
Come to visit me.

But these three were very different
Peepa’, Peepbee and Peepcie
I turned to look at Omar
And found him staring at me.


We led them to the living room
Where they communicated to me
Their gift of sharing with the pack
All that they may see.

Omar asked if they could accompany
Daughter Joy and Me
When we’re out talking about K-9 Town
Because the pack would like to see.

They know so much about the bad things
That mean humans like to do
Can we show them some of the good things
Let them know there are more like you.

I didn’t let on how glad I’d be
To have the K-9 Town Peepers around
I could hardly believe this was happening
I agreed without making a sound.

They left that night the way they came
As soon as I shut the door
I put more logs on the fire
No need to say anything more.

Those K-9 Town Peepers are so cute. Daughter Joy and I can’t wait to show them off at our upcoming events. They’ll be with us when we’re reading Omar Blue and K-9 Town, USA and putting on our special presentation at hospitals, libraries, schools, community centers and when we’re reading to our senior citizen friends. They will also be with us at upcoming fundraisers and conventions.  Now you know why there was nothing to talk about after the K-9 Town Peepers left Omar Blue and me. My wheels were already spinning. I have a feeling his were too.  Stay tuned….

Valentines Day at K-9 Town, USA

He's the only wolf in Omar's pack at K-9 Town but he loves and is loved by the Elders and puppies alike.

Wolf Bennie Ba has really calmed down from his wild days when he was known as  "The Ghost." The mention of his name made other animals seek shelter. Not at K-9 Town, USA though. I guess that's why he decided that's where he wanted to be.

One day last week Omar asked if I would like to meet Wolf Bennie Ba. I said, "Of course!" Out of all the K-9 Town canines, I found Wolf Bennie Ba one of the most interesting. He spends most of his time patrolling K-9 Town's perimeters. He's very protective and Omar says it was a good day when the pack took Bennie in.

Omar told me to look out the window.



 He was beautiful! Look what I saw waiting in my backyard. I waved him in and he came. I should have known they had something special in mind. Remember K-9 Town has adopted human holidays and they are very serious about celebrating them.

Wolf Bennie Ba was ready to let Wolfhound Winnie know how he felt about her. Not realizing that all of K-9 Town already knew. He wanted to do something special which is why they came to me. The only rule was, "None of that sissy stuff Ma."

I had to work fast because Bennie Ba couldn't stay still for too long at a time. He belonged out in the wilds. I'm proud of what I came up with and to make a long story short, this is how Wolf Bennie Ba greeted Wolfhound Winnie on K-9 Town, USA's Valentine's Day.  



The rest is another story. But now, I'd like to refresh your memories as to how Wolf Bennie Ba became a member of the Pack as told in chapter 4 of Omar Blue and K-9 Town, USA.....

PEEPING WOLF BENNIE BA

Was a bright but chilly morning

in K-9 Town, USA

the male Elders were out searching

for the peeping wolf Bennie Ba.

The puppies were left happy

with lots of time for play

but who could have guessed

that darned wolf Bennie

would circle back that day.

But back now to the Elders

and their leader Omar Blue

the biggest, mightiest doberman

any canine ever knew.

He’d stopped

and some would later say

a fierce look had taken hold

the look of the mighty warrior

big, bad, brave and bold.

They knew that there was something

but none of them could see

that wolf Bennie Ba

was in their town

behind The Big Oak Tree.

Then Omar Blue was running

with his cool magnificent stride

they couldn’t keep up

no matter what

but dog-gone-it they sure tried.

A real tough pack of dogs they were

from the shepherd to the hound

and with their leader

ahead of the pack

Bennie Ba would sure be found!

Big Omar Blue outpaced them

got home to the puppies real quick

he found Bennie Ba

just a minute away

but the huge white wolf

was quite sick.

When the pack arrived

wolf Bennie Ba cried

“I won’t do it again!

Just wanted to be

with you and the pups

cause I’m lonely

I ain’t got no kin”.

The Elders faced each other

not knowing what to say

then Omar Blue

 said loud and clear

“He needs us

let him stay.”

As soon as the female Elders heard those words, they started their special care, with Wolfhound Winnie as lead caregiver. Omar says it was love at first site. He also says he thinks Bennie knew how everything would turn out all along. He had spent a lot of time watching Omar and his Pack at K-9 Town.

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!

OMAR BLUE - WITHOUT A CLUE

I was sitting around minding my own business when Omar Blue walked up. I tried to pretend I didn't notice him but it didn't work. I had a feeling he was up to something and I was determined I wasn't getting involved, well kind of. It didn't work. He sat right in front of me and started right away.



I know you see me Ma

 "Ma we have to go," I understood. It seemed Corgi detectives Zeph and Sapphie had another community problem. Their best neighbor's cat was missing. Cat!! Yes I said Cat. A friend of the Corgis. They were afraid it would fall into the hands of an abuser. That's all Omar had to hear. You know how he is about abusers.

Soooo, we got our plan together and off we went.


No time for pictures

I was to get my friends, the corgis' people parents, to watch Omar for me while I went shopping. That worked out fine. They wanted the Corgis to meet Omar anyway. (If they only knew.) You should have seen those Corgis pretending they didn't know Omar. So cute.

I can't tell any more of this "true tale" because its being told by Val Muller over at her Corgi Capers site. Omar Blue is over there too. He's being featured for the wonderful job he did. Go over there and see him posing. Handsome thing. I'm so proud of him. He never tells me everything anyway. He found that cat and more. He could be a detective too if he wanted to instead of a pack leader but we know better than that.

When we returned, Omar couldn't wait to go tell his buddies at K-9 Town, USA. Remember King Cat Sateer (What a kool cat leader! See previous post if you missed him.) Somehow he found out about Omar's "rescue." He came to K-9 Town and brought several felines with him. They thanked Omar Blue and his Pack. Knowing if Omar cared enough to do this, so would his Pack. That's how it works in K-9 Town. They were showing so much love that the pack couldn't wait for them to leave. Omar says to be truthful, they really aren't that bad, but they get into everything.

K-9 Town, USA teachers

Though survival is the major

Other subjects aren’t rare.

We were trying to think of a brand new way

To let people parents know

If their loving pets are causing despair

There are places they can go.

I let those two, talk me into

Taking them for a ride

They had to see if these places exist

Couldn’t wait to get inside.

I had called my good friend Patti K.

Who heads a special place

Where they teach doggie obedience

She said she’d save us a space.

When we got there they had started

We thought that very good

This way we could see if the training

Was going as it should.

When I took them home they were happy

But the word must still be spread

Don’t ever give up on your pet

Do obedience training instead.

A K-9 Town, USA Christmas

Omar never believes me when I tell him how much K-9 Town, USA needs me. Well, it happened again. More doggie sitting this time. I really didn't care because I got to see Omar's Pack again. In addition, I got to see the abused and lonely canines they had rescued. All of them are happy and healthy. Here's how it started....

Me and Omar had a talk

About Christmas Eve this year

Little did I know at the time

Their plans were already in gear.

 



Ma, we need your help again

I did know there was something up

I could tell it by that smile

He was hesitating to ask me

If some friends could visit awhile.

They’ll just be here a minute Ma

You’ll get to see them again too

They’re people parents will let them come

If they think it’s given by you.

You know my new friend Baxter

The adorable Basset Hound

Adopted by neighbors Matt and Sara

Who love having him around.

I’m taking him to K-9 Town

See him waiting over there

The others will be here shortly

To be put into your care.


Omar said just stand here and look cute

We’re having a Christmas party

Santa Claus is coming too

The puppies have vowed to be good all day

I don’t know about that, do you.

I thought about the party

How Baxter would have much fun

How could I think of spoiling it

Okay Omar Blue you’ve won.

I really did it for Omar

But admit I was thinking too

This might be my chance to get back there

If so, I’d come back and tell you.

I took in some of Omar’s friends

Their people parents suspicious

 I gave them each a homemade cake

Which they knew would be delicious.

Again, I went to K-9 Town

Please don’t ask how I did

But as soon as I got to the Christmas Party

I found a place and hid

What a party those canines were having

At K-9 Town, USA

When Santa and Omar finally appeared

With reindeers pulling the sleigh.



Ho, Ho, Ho!



 The puppies were sleeping

No fault of their own

They’d been running and playing all day.

Santa went over

Left each a big treat

And was on his merry way.

Back to the party Santa Claus went

What a way to end his night

With Omar, his pack and their canine friends

He stayed until first light.

When Santa was about to fly off

He took time out to say

“Ho, Ho, Ho! What A Merry Christmas”

Then Santa was on his way.

Omar had that look again

The one I know so well

He tried to avoid looking at me

But I knew he wanted to tell.

I decided I’d just be direct

Omar Blue what’s troubling you

But to my surprise no more was needed

Okay Ma I’ll tell you this too.

I received a message from friends of mine

Welsh Corgis Sapphie and Zeph

About strange noises they had heard

From the big house to their left.



Do you think he hears us Zeph. Omar always hears us Sapphie

Those two have a special gift

For finding out what’s true

They’re the Corgi Capers Detectives

They knew what they had to do.



 They visit K-9 Town often

Their people family don’t know

They consider us their second home

They love to come and go.

They know all that we stand for

That’s why they made the call

If animals were suffering in that house

They knew we’d stop it all.



Those two know their stuff



They created a diversion

While we checked out the house

Everyone had left, it was empty

Now as quiet as a mouse.

The abusers are spotted by the detectives

The detectives saw them getting away

They do their jobs so well

They yelled out to me and my mighty pack

The rest I dare not tell.

The abused are now at K-9 Town

In the female Elders’ care

Waiting to celebrate Christmas

And happy we brought them there.

They thanked the Corgi Capers Detectives

Who had worked without a clue

As they left for home heads held real high

They’ll be back for Christmas too.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS! Omar and the Pack will be celebrating their second Christmas this year. They celebrate differently but their message is the same. If we love and take care of each other, happiness will find and surround us.

K-9 Town and Coco the Brave Pomeranian

Now 14 years old and weighing in at 5 lbs., Coco was brought to his people parents, the Tinsleys, from a shelter when he was 4 years old. It was love at first sight. Immediate bonding. A few years later their beloved Mr. Tinsley passed away, Coco and his people ma Bobbie became even closer as they shared their grief.

Not long ago, Bobbie made plans to go with family on a needed vacation. The hardest part was going to be leaving Coco. Not being able to decide which kennel would be best, she took the word of a friend about a “wonderful place” for boarding dogs.

During his stay, Coco was savagely attacked by another animal.  He had no telling marks, they were hidden because of his hair, but after returning Bobbie noticed he was acting strange. It was days after a trip to the emergency room and her vet, 2 little places that had been mentioned abscessed. Little Coco almost died twice. Bobbie never gave up on her baby boy. After a series of laser treatments which brave little Coco responded well to, he began to heel and feel better. The amazing thing about Coco was he kept up his happy spirit. It was so obvious that he was fighting to live, fighting to be his normal self.

One very early morning Coco was let out to do his business but was in a state of mind like never before. He went wandering. He needed something. Even more than Bobbie had to give. He needed a place where……

All of a sudden, and I’ve already proved this can happen, he was at a place he’d never been before and there were canines all around him. All were welcoming and loving like they had always known him.  He met pack leader Omar Blue first, then all the males and females made a fuss over him. This was just what he needed.

Omar Blue let Coco know that once you get to K-9 Town, USA, it’s your home forever. Coco told them all about his people ma Bobbie and how she would miss him so he couldn’t stay but would return often and that’s just what he’s done. Bobbie has no idea what’s come over him but she’s very happy too.

Here’s another reason for Coco’s new attitude. This is his K-9 Town sweetie, Puffy. The female Elders couldn’t wait to get those two together. Aren’t they just too cute.

As I knew they would, not long after Coco’s first visit to K-9 Town, USA, Omar Blue, Rottweiler Brady, Pit Bull Sammy and Wolf Bennie Ba paid that bad kennel a visit. Major Diggs had the job of holding back the rest of the pack.

Between Omar Blue, the pack and his people ma Bobbie I’d say all of Coco’s worries are over.

We try to be careful where we board our furry friends. I'm so glad the true side (top portion) of my story could have a good ending. Coco will never be completely well again but he's doing much better. Bobbie says "at 14, while a bit slower than 10 years ago, he still thinks he's a puppy." I guess that's pretty good considering what he's been through.
