Trouble In K-9 Town?

Omar had told me about the confrontation between Rottweiler Brady and Mountain Lion Booby. Brady embarrassed Booby in front of his followers.

Pit Bull Sammy was there too so it could have been much worse. They're telling Omar afterwards, as he had suspected, the mountain lions were waiting to start trouble, but Booby got more than he expected.

 

They want us to leave our land and never come back. Never happen.

 



Omar had a visitor the other morning. I looked out the window, knowing I hadn't heard that particular low bark before.  It was Pit Bull Margie's elusive fella, Sammy. What a handsome dog he is, but I could see the worry in his eyes. He needed Omar Blue.

 

 

Omar was out beside his friend before I knew he had moved. They weren't out there long before Sammy left and Omar came in to say he'd be back, but had to go now.

 

 

 He later told me that Sammy was worried because Prof. Brady had stayed up all night  thinking about going after Mountain Lion Booby. He had heard the mountain lions were going to follow them to Omar's kin.

 

 

Sammy had watched Brady from a distance all night. If Brady was going somewhere, he was going too.

 

 

Neither knew then that Omar's plans for the mountain lions were already in place. Rhodesian Ridgebacks Koffee and Tee and Bulldogs Betty and Jim keeping an eye on the lions was just the first step.

 

When he got to K-9 Town he spoke to Brady and Sammy. He knew they wanted to keep the trouble away from the Pack. Everyone was busy preparing for the trip so they would handle the mountain lions. One word to anyone and even the females would be at their sides.

 

After talking to Omar Blue they both settled down, realizing their leader was up to something. They never know what's on his mind, but its always worth waiting for. Later for those mountain lions. We'll handle them whenever they think they're ready. What a trip this is going to be!

 

Omar didn't want me to worry about Professor Brady so he made sure I saw him here at work following Poodle Sophie Jean's instructions, waiting to make sure the waterlogged pooch you see below arrived safely. He's over the trauma and like the rest of Omar's Pack, can't wait to get started on their new adventure.

Omar Blue - Come One Come All

I knew this was going to happen. They all want to meet Omar Blue's kin. They heard about his new book "Led By An Eagle" and they wanna go too. I'm surrounded by dogs!!

 

I didn’t know the showdogs were also involved in this. Here’s Scarlett the Leonberger and Casper the Kuvasz. You’ve met them before. Sister and brother by way of people parent friend Joe, our neighbor. Scarlett wants to go ahead to K-9 Town to be with her adopted Leonberger family (see lower right) who are waiting for her. Casper, the showdog leader, says she has to wait for the others and stick to the plan.

This was Scarlett’s reply.

 

But Casper is used to Scarlett’s replies. Lol. Aren’t they something.

 

Little Lucy Grim is already here with me. Practically a pup. Youngest of the Elders when she visits K-9 Town. Poodle Sophie Jean is waiting for her. You know that song “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.” That’s Lucy. Remember the Christmas party? Sophie and the females will watch her closely. They love and can’t wait to see her. I’ll be ducking Karen and John for a month after this but Lucy has so much fun with the Pack.

This is Guinness Goheen.  She's outside pacing because she wants to go too. Her first time.  This furry ball of cuteness is supposed to be keeping me company while Omar's away. They planned this. I know it. But, how can I say no. The Pack will make sure no harm comes to her and they'll be back before Pam and Mike get back from vacation. I hope.

This big boy is Theo.  He had a plan. He got Tammy to take him to the park where she usually gives him his space and may turn her head, ever so briefly. All he needed was a minute. Not today! See that leg on the side turned towards him, while he pretends not to have a care in the world. Omar later came up with a better plan and he's with the Pack now having a ball with the others.

 

Just look at these two. Corgi Detectives Zeph and Sapphie!  It’s so good seeing them again. They do love to play! Earlier this year Omar visited their Corgi Capers site and helped them find a cat friend of theirs who was missing and they helped find some puppies that Omar and the Pack rescued. They come and go to K-9 Town as they please.  Their people mom Val Muller will think they are out in the community on a case @ http://corgicapers.com

 

 

There's Omar's pal Freedom stretched out cooling it. He's brought his gal Bella. He needs a rest from all the rescues. Remember how scary he gets when he's working? So does Omar. I'll never forget that night I followed them. Remember, I told you about it. A few "true" tales down. Those two were no joke. I ran home and didn't tell Omar what I saw.

 

 

This little trio arrived just after Omar left with the first group. They were very disappointed until I told them Omar would be back for them and gave them each water and a big marrow bone.

I think you get the picture(s). Omar and his Pack say there's always room for more. Second-in-charge Major Diggs and Great Dane Jennie (whose baby boy looks just like the Major I might add, if I were one to spread rumors) are coordinating everything, as usual. They're keeping the whole Pack busy preparing for their first trip away from their beloved K-9 Town, USA.

 

I don't understand it, the more I tell Omar Blue I'm not getting involved, the more involved I become.

OMAR BLUE AND HIS PACK A HIT IN THE U.K.



They're loving Omar and his pack! We're now regular contributors to childrens' new  "Your Pets Magazine." We're helping teach responsibility to caregivers of animals. There's everything from baby chickens to big and little cute things we've never seen before over there. The United Kingdom seems far away but Omar says I shouldn't hold them back because they want "everyone" to join in what they stand for.

Guess I'd better keep writing.  The K-9 Town naughty puppies alone could fill a book.  I've told Omar, they're spoiled rotten. Not to change the subject, but here's an example. This happened while the pack was supposed to be getting ready for the trip to see Omar's kin.

Meanwhile, I'll let you in on what I know...

Omar and his Pack are travelling into the mountains to meet his "biological" kin. Though reluctant to leave their beloved K-9 Town, USA, Omar's followers look forward to learning more about the mysterious leader they have grown to love and respect. Here, Omar talks to them, in the wee hours, under their much loved Big Oak Tree.

 

It's no secret they're being followed by mountain lion Booby and his Pride.  Fearless to a fault, their attitude is "let them come. We'll handle them when they're ready.”

But taking nothing for granted, being true to their breeds and love for hunting lions, rhodesian ridgebacks Koffe and Tee and bulldogs Betty and Jim set out to handle the trouble before it reaches the pack. 

Omar would never say no, but knowing his unique talents, they heed his advice, "Don’t approach the mountain lions, keep them in your sights. We'll make sure they see us leaving. They’ll follow us for sure.

The scouting four could see that one of Omar's special plans were in the works. They would do as they were told. What was their leader up to?

Meanwhile Booby is livid that Rottweiler Brady "the professor" had gotten the best of him in front of his followers.

As they travel through the mountains, the lions' numbers are growing. They're picking up kin along the way. "Gonna rid this land of Omar Blue and his Pack once and for all," says Booby.

That's the plan.

Abuse On The Waterfront

Omar Blue had been gone for days.  I admit I was getting very worried.  No telling what he and his K-9 Town Pack were up to.  

About mid morning the 5^th day I was passing a window and saw him standing outside.  He was looking out at a few of his friends who had obviously walked him home.

Straight home now!

I ran for my camera, ready to take a picture as more evidence of my true tale but by the time I got back they were too far away.  Here’s Omar still looking fondly after them.  So proud.

Wait til I tell you this, ma.

 When he came in, he was ready to tell all, which is unusual for him but I was ready.  He sat in his favorite chair while I got us a snack then pulled down the shades, for atmosphere. Here’s the story, as relayed by him, about Abuse On The Waterfront.

We were sitting talking

My pack and me

Almost like I’m doing with you

We had just come back from a rescue

Saved some dogs and puppies too.



They were over with the female Elders

Getting the best of care

When one came over to have his say

“There’s more dogs kept down there.”



The place we’d left held no surprise

It was down on the Waterfront

The evil there was legendary

So we had to continue the hunt.



All of these dogs were mistreated

Sometimes even made to fight

The abusers didn’t know about me and my Pack

But they sure met us that night.



It was Cocker Spandy who brought the news

Said he knew all about this place

He’d been held there for a very long time

Knew every inch of the space.



I didn’t let on but something sounded wrong

Cocker Spandy was in disguise.

One thing the whole Pack noticed too

He never looked me in the eyes.



The newcomers were taken to K-9 Town

To be a part of the family

Where all are treated with the same respect

And love runs rampantly.



For the next few days all went well

As we planned our next attack

Keeping an eye on Cocker Spandy

To make sure he didn’t go back.



One night while up late talking

I warned all to be aware

For the first time ever in K-9 Town

A spy was lurking there.



Spandy didn’t know us very well

He thought he’d seen it all

Had no idea what we could do

That bad place was gonna fall.



They were planning to lay a trap for us

I found this out that day

Heard the leader talking about his dog

Spandy, but that’s okay.



It didn’t matter they knew we were coming

There was nothing they could do

But we changed our strategy just a bit

This time they were gonna be through.



When the big night came

Cocker Spandy acted lame

“An old injury, I can’t walk.”



I just looked in his eyes

Didn’t say a word

But he knew he’d better not talk.



“We’ve been on to you from the very start

Your story never rang true

Then after talking to the others

We decided what we’d do.”



“Wait Omar Blue

Let me explain

The things you say are true

But I didn’t know what I know now

About K-9 Town and you.



I’d be happy to stand right by your side

And back your Pack tonight

I was gonna wait until you all came back

I intended to make it right.



What I did, was out of fear

Afraid to break away

My loyalty is now with you

I’m asking, can I stay.”



As I looked back at my mighty Pack

Most gave a little nod

They understood how Spandy felt

They too once had it hard.



“You know now what we’re all about

We never desert our kind

K-9 Town is a haven

For all we help or find.



You can stay here if you want to

But remember we’re trouble free

If you do anything to change that

You’ll answer directly to me.”

We went back to the Waterfront

We changed the place that night

They knew that we were coming

But still didn’t get to fight.

After this, somehow word got out

About Omar Blue and his Pack

No more mistreatment of animals there

For fear that we’ll come back.

As for Cocker Spandy

He’s happy now

At K9 Town, USA

Enjoying life as one of the Pack

Helping others find their way.


I asked Omar where this waterfront was but he wouldn’t tell me. I think he knew I wanted to see the place. It’s better this way. I’m sure there is still danger there. I hope Omar and his K-9 Town friends stay away too.

Omar Blue And The Fetch A Cure Fundraisers

Not long along I told you how daughter Joy and I were volunteer members of an organization called Fetch A Cure.  If you recall we took Omar and the K-9 Town Peepers with us to an event so they could take word back to the  Pack that there are people who really care about their canine families and friends.  Now they love hearing about  Fetch A Cure. 

Thursday, May 31st and Friday, June 1st, the 2nd Annual Car Pool Bow Tie Open Golf Tournament and the 5th Annual Pets on Parade Benefit & Auction.  Fetch A Cure’s two biggest fundraisers of the year, to raise awareness and funds for Fetch A Cure's community oriented programs.

Come on Ma.

Here’s Omar waiting impatiently for me to come in and check again on word about the total amount the events had raised. He and his pack know that it takes lots of “that thing called money” to keep these important programs going. They love hearing about the Companions in Crisis program, which provides financial assistance to people that can’t afford treatments and medication for their pets diagnosed with cancer.

Omar says the female Elders at K-9 Town can cure anything, but being the devoted animals they are, these pets don’t like leaving their people families for too long at a time.

 

Another of the pack’s favorites. Through a partnership with the Virginia Department of Corrections, inmates at Virginia correctional centers train and socialize rescue dogs with guidance and instruction from two professional dog trainers. The Pen Pals program not only lowers the rate of euthanasia in Virginia’s city dog shelters, but also provides life skills to inmates. The rescue dogs chosen for the program come from Richmond Animal Control and Southside SPCA shelters. On average, 90 dogs are rescued and placed into loving homes every year through Pen Pals.  

We all know how Omar and his pack are big on rescues.  I don’t think I’ll tell him where these shelters are located.

How'd we do?

Back to our original conversation, Omar and I went back into the house to see if there was any news. There was.  The two events were tremendous successes. PROCEEDS TOTALED NEARLY $220,000.  That’s right, $220,000.  All the hard work paid off. 

I was talking to Omar, I thought.  “We can continue our mission to improve quality of life by connecting people and pets!!  Our vision is intact!!  We may one day see a community where no one is denied a choice for their pet because of lack of options, education or funding!!”

I snapped out of my happy, somewhat loud moment and got to the door just in time to see Omar rounding a corner at top speed, headed for his beloved K-9 Town, USA, where his pack would surely be waiting.

OMAR BLUE AND FREEDOM FOR ALL

We were snacking after dinner

My Omar Blue and me

When we heard a familiar bark

We knew who it would be.

Was that beautiful shepherd Freedom

I hadn’t seen him for a while

Look how erect he’s standing

I really like his style.

Instead of Freedom coming in

Omar went out to see

The reason for this was simple enough

They didn’t want to share with me.

I was bored and wanted something to do

And decided then and there

Those two may think they’re leaving me

But I’ll follow them anywhere.

Omar came back in the house

Freedom stayed outside

He knew I had some questions

And I could tell if he lied.

They left, I followed

though I couldn’t keep up

It still turned out alright

I made it to their destination

Then hid back out of sight.

I realized I was near K-9 Town

But I could feel much danger here

Omar and Freedom were different now

I didn’t know this pair.

They were talking to the tree monsters

I could see they were getting mad

Omar’s eyes were like bright lights

Freedom looked just as bad.

They ran off into the dark woods

Leaving the tree monsters behind

Obviously on a mission

What were they looking to find?

I didn’t wait around to see

I wanted to get home fast

It wouldn’t be the first time

Didn’t want it to be my last.

I waited up for Omar

What a horrible scary night

All I could do was picture

Him and Freedom in a terrible fight.

Omar got home the next morning

With Freedom at his side

They were my beautiful dogs again

Didn’t tell them I had spied.

He asked me to come outside with them

I followed right away

The sight I saw was so wonderful

I think about it every day.

Omar can we keep them!

I know just what to do

No ma they can’t stay here

It would only make trouble for you.

We did some things last night you see

Can’t tell you any more

Good thing the tree monsters were looking on

And told us what they saw.

The puppies are going to K-9 Town

To grow up with my Pack

I knew you’d want to see them

Maybe one day they’ll come back.

As Omar and Freedom led them off

I knew this was the best thing

The puppies would grow up big and strong

With all the happiness love can bring.

Eventually, Omar told me how the tree monsters helped him and Freedom rescue the puppies.  We may be enemies he said, but we don’t do much to really hurt each other.

I said to myself, what a place to live and learn, K-9 Town, USA.

Oh!  And this is the only time I'm fessing up. The cute little dobies actually come from Iron Dog Kennels in Swansea, SC where Omar Blue was born and lived  until the ripe old age of 8 weeks old.
