Bennie Ba shares a secret

Major Diggs, Bennie and me, were strolling along, enjoying our home and beyond, when Bennie Ba stopped suddenly, and announced, "I gotta go, and I'll be gone for a while."

I looked over at him, then responded before Major Diggs had a chance. We had been waiting for Bennie to let it out. He'd been pouting for days, which is unlike him. We knew if we got him alone, he would spill whatever was ailing him.

"What's up Bennie? Where you goin'," I asked him.

"You in some kind of trouble? ... You know we handle that stuff together," Diggs barked.

"Calm down, it ain't nothing like that." Bennie squealed. "I got a family up in the mountains. I'm gonna bring 'em down.

Her name is Glory. And I got two puppy sons. It's a long way. I've been waitin' for the pups to get some size on 'em.

Glory was afraid the females wouldn't take to her. I convinced her otherwise ... I'd better get started."

"You ain't going alone," I retorted. "I'm going with you."

"Me too!" Diggs added. "You got too many enemies between here and there, to be toting a family alone, Bennie."

"Let's go get the pack settled," I said. Brady and Sammy will watch for trouble while we're gone.

It took days, but we didn't care. Bennie's excitement spilled over. When we got close, Bennie began to howl.

Soon a dark figure showed herself, trailing two cute little pups. Glory stared hesitantly at Diggs and me, then her snout drew back in a smile. She turned her attention to Bennie, who was taking it all in.

When we arrived home, the females barely waited for us to introduce Bennie's family. They welcomed them with kind hearts, excited yapping and physical inspections - always ready to apply whatever care "they" deemed necessary.

Glory was happy. K-9 Town was all Benny said it would be.

The puppies wasted no time swooping their new friends up. Afterall, they had been waiting too. When last seen they were scurrying towards one of their not-so-hidden hideouts.

As for Bennie ... He couldn't stop smiling, even with all the teasin' we put him through.

I can't wait to tell Ma all this. Then again, she seems to know stuff before it happens.

I always wonder about that.
